Oxford University Press and Social Explorer
The current shutdown in Washington is limiting the access that scholars and researchers have to vital materials, including the US Census website. To that end, Oxford University Press and the Social Explorer team will open up access to Social Explorer, for the next two weeks. Social Explorer provides access to the US Census data from 1790 to 2010 and to the American Community Survey from 2005 through 2012.
For access to Social Explorer, simply email onlinereference@oup.com to request a username and password.
Social Explorer (about video) provides access to current and historical census data and demographic information. Users can create maps and reports to illustrate, analyze, and understand demography and social change.

ERIC and Government Shutdown
ERIC, the Education Resource Information Center, is typically available through the government website (http://eric.ed.gov/). Because of the government shutdown, access to the full text of articles and other materials will not be available from the government site but researchers still have access to the research platform.
ERIC provides access to educational literature and resources including access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. It was designed as a national information system to provide access to education literature and resources. According to its website, “ERIC is the world's largest and most frequently used education digital library.” ERIC provides more than 1.4 million bibliographic records and dates back to 1966.
