Let's Talk Learning Spaces Talk Show

The second season of the online radio show Let’s Talk Learning Spaces will return on August 28^th 11:30AM (EST). The show will discuss and share information about best practices for policies, procedures, services, research, and technology in regards to learning spaces, i.e. learning/information commons. This platform will enable us to have live conversations with colleagues across the globe, while using radio as an additional communication tool to the forums information specialists presently use to communicate.

Some of the topics among many others will be:

·         Progression of the O’Kelly Library: ( implementation of new information & ideas)

·         Assessing the value of the information commons/libraries services with student achievement

·         The role of the blended librarian

·         Information commons in small libraries

·         Selected case studies of information commons

From Print to Digital

WSSU library’s history and impact to be discussed on April 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Anderson Center’s main dining room, WSSU Campus. 

 

The C.G. O’Kelly Library staff will celebrate National Library Week by hosting "From Print to Digital: A Discourse on Library Services at Winston-Salem State University". This free event will be recorded and used to produce a comprehensive documentary about WSSU library services. 

There are many engaging bits of library history waiting to be discovered! Alumni and former staff members are encouraged to think about and share memories of their time at ‘TC’ or ‘SU,’ and that will prompt lively discussions.

Friends and Stars
An Evening of Community Performing Artists

Entertainment is the focus for the 2012 WSSU Friends of the Library fundraising event. Friends and Stars: An Evening of Community Performing Artists will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Greek Orthodox Church, Hellenic Fellowship Hall on 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem. Tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for students. Advertisement opportunities are available in the printed program. The price range is $75 for a business card size ad to $600 for a full page (8x10)

The evening will be an Ed Sullivan old school variety show for the young generation “Winston-Salem’s Got Talent.” As Master of Ceremony, Lorenzo Meachum will offer up a lot of free-wheeling fun and old school charm. His fifteen year relationship with the WSSU Friends of the Library makes his name synonymous with the organization. During those years he has shared his diverse talents by producing One Man One Show, which featured the writings of Langston Hughes and most recently he served as the master of ceremony for HisStory.

New school entertainment will include spoken word performances by Winston-Salem natives CNDestiny and Jeannette Stackhouse. CNDestiny uses a unique combination of words and music to engage her audience. Most recently she performed for Marvstastic Talent Extravaganza - a regional Talent Competition sponsored by the NC Black Repertory Theatre and the Centennial CIAA Basketball Tournament. Stackhouse is a 2012 honor graduate of Glenn High School where she had an outstanding record as a scholar, athlete and performing artist. She was a 2011 Rotary Club Scholar, captain of the 2010-11 track team and Glenn High School 2009-10 Poet Laureate. She is a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill. She has been commissioned to pen and present a homily to Faustina L Holman our beloved former professor of music.

Heavenly Mimes Dance group from High Point and the Winston-Salem Greek Orthodox Cultural Dancers will share their talents. Both groups are very energetic and provide visually appealing performances. A repeat performance from the Devine Institute will complete the dance segment. These young performers offered a powerful demonstration of Alvin Ailey’s modern dance techniques during the FOL 25th Anniversary Celebration. Their performance will be a special tribute to Gerald L. Pauling, Sr. a loyal supporter and member of the planning committee.

The WSSU music department along with other community performers will provide the music for the evening. Robert Hairston, a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church Choir will wow the audience with his beautiful voice.

You don’t want to miss this event! Program your personal digital assistant for 6:30 pm. The performances will start at 6:30 and continue throughout the evening. Guests will be able to taste a variety of food from stations throughout the evening.
